Contents
Obtaining
When mined with a wooden pickaxe or better, stone drops cobblestone. Cobblestone is used in many crafting recipes, however it must be smelted to obtain stone.
Alternatively, mining Stone with a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment will make the stone to drop itself.

Natural generation
In the Overworld, stone generates only a couple of blocks below the surface in most biomes. It then carries on until the bottom of the world. Stone can be replaces by caves, ores, gravel veins, dungeons, the J block, and the bedrock borders spawned at the edges of the world.
Smelting
Stone can be made by smelting cobblestone in the furnace. Since cobblestone is a renewable resource, stone therefore is renewable too.

To remove it, it must be replaced by another block by putting anything else in the same place or mined while holding another backdrop block.
Placing the stone backdrop block into the crafting grid will give the original stone block back.
Backdrop blocks can be mined only while holding another backdrop. It takes 1.2 seconds to mine the block.
