Sugarcane is generated naturally in the Overworld in Forest, Plains, and Water biomes. It may occur in other biomes, but is rarer. It can also be found in a Dungeons Chest.

Crafting
Use 3 pieces across the Crafting Table area to make paper, which is used to make books, (for bookshelves), or put in one at a time to make sugar. Sugar is then used to make cake, or Candy canes. Smelting it gives you caramel.
Farming
Sugarcane can be farmed by placing it on the ground. It will gradually grow, and does not need to be on farmland. This means sugarcane is a renewable resource.
