A pig is a commonly found passive mob. When a pig is killed, unless it dies from being set on fire, they will drop 0-2 [[raw pork chop]]s, along with 0-2 [[raw bacon]]s, which the player can cook. If they do die from a fire, however, the food items they drop will be already cooked!  They only spawn in the day time on grass tiles. They are not hostile, so they will not attack, even if they have been hit. Pigs eat Apple in Leaves and Oranges in Leaves.

Identifier:pig

The pig is a passive mob commonly found in the overworld.

This mob has 10 (♥♥♥♥♥) health and will drop Raw Porkchop raw porkchop and Raw bacon raw bacon when killed

Spawning

The pig can spawn in well lit areas only on grass/dirt blocks.

Commands

A pig can be spawned using the summon command: /summon pig.

Data tags can be specified to customize the pig. Here are example:

  • /summon pig 1 ~ ~ {name:"Thief Pig", health:5, defaultDrops:false, drops:[{item:{id:"gold_ingot", name:"Cash"}, quantity:6, bonus:2}]
  • /summon pig 1 ~ ~ {health:20, baby:5, defaultDrops:false, drops:[{item:{id:"carrot"}, isBaby:1}]}}

Drops

When killed, they may drop Raw Porkchop raw porkchops and Raw bacon raw bacon.

Loot Quantity Looting I Looting II Looting III
Cooked Porkchop 0-2 0-2 0-3 1-4
Raw Porkchop 0-2 0-2 0-3 1-4
Cooked Bacon 0-2 0-2 0-3 0-3
Raw Bacon 0-2 0-2 0-3 0-3
Experience_orb_2 4
Note: Cooked meats can be obtained if the pig is on fire.

Behavior

The pig will wander around, avoiding cliffs. It can jump up to two blocks high.

The pig is not hostile, so it will not attack even when hit. If hit, it will panic, running back and forth for a couple of seconds, like other passive mobs.

If a pig is struck by lightning, it turns into a Zombie_Pigman_Head zombie pigman.

The pig can be ridden by the player after placing a saddle on its back. While riding the pig, the player can control the pig's movement by holding a Carrot_on_a_Stick carrot on a stick. If the player presses the jump button, they will dismount from the pig. If the player sneaks, the pig will stop, otherwise it just keeps going in the direction the player is facing, not avoiding any drops. The durability of the carrot on a stick decreases as the pig moves.
