TNT is a explosive block and can be set off by fire or redstone circuitry.
Contents
Obtaining
When broken, TNT drops itself.
Crafting
TNT is crafted with five units of gun powder and four blocks of sand.
Usage
Explosions
When TNT is primed by either fire (for example with the flint and steel) or redstone circuitry, it begins an irreversible ignition process. This process lasts 5 seconds, during which the TNT becomes an entity, falls if not supported by a block below it, bounces on walls it hits and slows down when in contact with the ground. Towards the end it starts to grow in size slightly, and after this it explodes. It causes an explosion with a radius of 3 blocks from the TNT block. This explosion causes damage to blocks within the radius, the degree of damage depending on how resistant the block is to explosions. It also causes damage to mobs and entities within the radius. Unlit TNT within the blast can be primed by the blast. Already primed TNT will be pushed away by the blast.
Smelting Ingredient
When TNT is placed inside a furnace, the smelting process begins like it does with normal items. However, when it finishes, the furnace blows up as if it were a normal TNT block.
Crafting Ingredient
TNT is required in the crafting recipe for the TNT minecart.

Trivia
- Prior to version 1.22, TNT was ignited by punching it, and it had a countdown animation, in which it would display a five second countdown on the block, beeping every second, and beeping multiple times at the last second. This could be stopped by breaking the TNT block.
- Before its name was shortened in 1.25, the item name of TNT was "trinitrotoluene".
- Prior to version 1.29, TNT explosions could break portal frames, causing them to be dropped as items. This effectively meant that the player was able to pick up the blocks and rebuild the ender portal somewhere else.
