Enchanting is a system in which the player trades experience to give armor, tools and books special boosts and abilities.

Enchantments

The Enchantments mostly come directly from Minecraft, and are sometimes increased in level such as for Unbreaking (from a maximum of III-Minecraft, to level IV-Mine Blocks, as well as Protection IV-Minecraft, to Protection V-Mine Blocks). The maximum level for enchanting is 54.

Any Enchantable Item

Unbreaking

Unbreaking gives a tool or weapon the chance to not use up a durability point when used. The higher the level, the greater chance that this will happen. It is especially useful for pickaxes and diamond tools, because it provides the highest yield per level. Unbreaking can be applied to any item that has durability (eg. flint and steel, fishing rod, balloon).

Tool Enchantments

Silk Touch

Silk Touch is an enchantment that allows players to mine various things and get the exact item they mined. This grants the player ability to harvest blocks that normally would be unobtainable or difficult to obtain. These blocks include stone, ores, grass, mycelium, glass, cobwebs, leaves long grass, shrub, desert shrub. mushroom caps, mushroom stems, and clay blocks. This enchantment is also mutually exclusive to fortune.

Efficiency

Efficiency increases speed at which a tool breaks blocks. It can be especially helpful for diamond pickaxes that are used to gather obsidian, which usually takes a while to mine. Efficiency is also useful for mundane tasks such as cutting down trees which do not require much thought and could be sped up.

Fortune

Fortune is a special enchantment that gives the wielder of the enchanted tool a chance to gain more from mining something. Fortune works on coal ore, redstone ore, odd rock ore, diamond ore, topaz ore, lapis lazuli ore, ender gem ore, long grass, and clay block. The higher the level, the higher the probability of the block dropping a higher amount of drops. This enchantment cannot be applied to shears, unlike the other two tool specific enchants. This enchantment is also mutually exclusive to silk touch.

Weapon Enchantments

Sharpness

Sharpness gives the weapon a chance of dealing one to two damage extra on the target, as if turning an iron sword into the equivalant of a diamond sword.

Smite

Smite makes a weapon deal more damage to undead foes. This includes: zombies, skeletons, and zombie pigmen.

Bane of Arthropods

Bane of Arthropods increases damage dealt with a weapon to arthropods, which currently only includes spiders.

Looting

Looting increases the amount of drops given by a mob upon death, and increases the chance of a mob dropping a rare drop.

Knockback

Knockback increases the distance an enemy is thrown back, farther with each level. This enchantment is useful for fighting creepers because it stops them from exploding, because it knocks them out of the distance close enough to the player for them to explode.

Fire Aspect

Fire Aspect makes the enchanted weapon set the target on fire on hit. Meat-bearing animals will drop cooked meat when slain.

Bow Enchantments

Power

Similar to Sharpness for the sword, Power makes a bow deal more damage to the target hit by an arrow. The higher the power level is, the stronger the hit will be. After collecting a few Power levels on a bow, it will eventually do enough damage to take out an unarmored foe, such as a creeper, in a single shot.

Punch

Punch can be applied to a bow to hit the opponent farther back. Although the Bow already has an original small amount of knockback, increasing the amount of knockback allows for easier medium-range combat, knocking enemies farther.

Flame

Flame will set the opponent on fire when hit with an arrow. Because hitting a mob with a flame arrow can cause them to die while on fire, cooked goods are dropped from peaceful farming mobs.

Infinity

Infinity is a really useful enchantment for the bow. When a bow with infinity is fired, as long as there is at least one arrow in the inventory, the arrow is not used up. This means that as long as a player holds at least one arrow in their inventory they will never run out of arrows. The arrows shot from an infinity bow cannot be picked back up, unlike normal arrows.

Armor Enchantments

Protection

Protection is a common enchantment that helps reduce the overall damage taken from attacks.

Fire Protection

Fire protection is a less common enchantment that reduces the damage taken from fire damage. This can be helpful against blazes, especially when combined with Fire Resistance potions.

Blast Protection

Blast protection is a less common enchantment that reduces the damage taken from explosive damage. This can be helpful against creepers and when standing too close to a TNT's blast radius.

Projectile Protection

This can be helpful against a skeleton, a ghast, and the ender dragon. It decreases the amount of damage taken when you are it by an arrow, fireball, or snowball.

Thorns

Thorns is a rare enchantment that damages when a mob deals damage to the player.

Commands

Since the 1.28 update, you can enchant your equipment by using commands. An example enchant code would be: /enchant Unbreaking4 (the enchantment level can be specified by using either natural numbers (1 - 5) or roman numerals (I - V)). You can, also, repeat an level-1 enchantment command to increase the level of the enchantment (ex: repeating three times /enchant Unbreaking1 in a Balloon will make the Balloon have an Unbreaking III Enchantment).

1.27 Nov 13, 2015

Bugs

  • 1.28 - Sometimes, when an enchanted item on the hot-bar is selected, or when an item is selected to the left of the enchanted item, it locks the items to only the right of the enchanted item. this can be temporarily fixed by typing the slot the item you want appears on, or by using the scroll wheel.
  • 1.28 - Books cannot be enchanted with anything other than Unbreaking. This includes books obtained through fishing. TheTopazRobot (talk) 20:45, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Trivia

  • You can name your shovel Bob and still be able to enchant it with Unbreaking and Silk Touch.
  • Level 54 enchantments usually give 3-5 high level enchantments dependent on the type of tool being enchanted.
  • Unlike Minecraft, a sword can be enchanted with Sharpness, Smite and Bane of Arthropods at the same time.
