A nether portal allows the player to travel to a dimension known as the Nether. Another nether portal is generated at the spawn point in the nether.
Building a nether portal
Building a Nether Portal requires six portal stone blocks (crafted with one obsidian and eight odd rock each) arranged in a U-shape, with four blocks placed horizontally as the base and two blocks on top, one at each end of the base. To activate the portal, the player needs to light it on fire, by using flint and steel on its inner blocks. Make sure to light the portal stones on fire, not the space above them!
Trivia
- The variation of the portal compared to its Minecraft counterpart is due to the game being 2D.
- Every 0-60 seconds, the portal will emit an ominous ambient noise.
- The Portal Stone can be removed without destroying the portal itself.
- Despite being unobtainable in survival mode, portal blocks can be obtained in creative mode with the pick block function.
- When in the inventory, a Nether portal block is simply called "Portal".
- Nether portals created in the End can take the player to the Nether. However, entering the portal in the Nether, will always take the player to the Overworld.
- Contrary to its Minecraft counterpart, mobs and items cannot use the Nether portal.
- Falling blocks break when they fall in a Nether portal.
