A nether portal allows the player to travel to a dimension known as the Nether. Another nether portal is generated at the spawn point in the nether.

Building a nether portal

To build the nether portal, you will need 48 odd rock, 6 obsidian, and flint and steel. Create a U-shaped portal, by making and placing 4 portal stone in a horizontal row, and 1 sitting on top of this base at each end. To activate it, light it on fire, by using flint and steel on its inner blocks. Make sure to light the portal stones on fire, not the space above the portal stones!
