Lightning is an effect spawned naturally during thunderstorms, which is a weather event. It causes a flash and a bolt of lightning. The bolt of lightning connects from the cloud layer to the surface of the world. This causes damage to nearby mobs.

If lightning strikes a pig, it will transform it into a zombie pigman.

If lightning hits a creeper, it will become a charged creeper.

Lightning can be triggered via the lightning command.

Alternatively, a thunderstorm can be triggered using the /weather set thunder command.
