The apple is a food item obtained from leaves in apple trees.

Obtaining
When mined, apple in leaves drop an apple.
Chests
1-2 apples generate in a bonus chest.
Usage
When eaten by the player, the apple heals 1.5 hunger points.
Crafting
An apple can be crafted into a candy apple which heals 6 hunger points and 1.5 hearts.

An apple is required in the recipe for a golden apple. This gives the player health and hunger regeneration, so it is better for combat.
