A name tag is an item used to name mobs.
Obtaining
Fishing
The name tag is part of the treasure category in the fishing loot table.
Natural Generation
Name tags can be found in 21.8% of loot chests in a stack of 1.
Usage
To use a name tag you must first name it using an anvil, then select the name tag in the items hotbar and shift-click on the animal you want to name.
Tips
- You can name multiple name tags all at once for the price of one as long as you don't mind all your rabbits being called moose.
- Careful of double clicking! The game will think you want to rename the mob and it will cost another name tag. Tags also are not dropped upon death.
