The melon seed is an item that can be planted to grow melon blocks.
Contents
Obtaining
When broken, a planted melon seed at any growth stage drops itself. It does not drop if the block under it is removed.
Long Grass
The melon seed has a chance of being dropped by long grass. This chance can be increased by breaking it with a tool enchanted with Fortune.
Natural Generation
The melon seed can be found in 21.8% of loot chests in stacks of 2-4.
Crafting
The melon seed can be crafted from the melon.
Usage
Farming

The melon seed can be placed on farmland. If placed anywhere else, it will still be used up and instead of dropping it simply disappears. Like the pumpkin seed, when placed it will start to slowly grow, and once it has grown fully it has a chance of growing a melon block next to it. It's texture appears connected to the melon block, however, it does not connect to any other melon blocks not grown by it. If the melon block is broken then it will revert to the normal texture and has a chance to grow another one.
