The Forest section makes very clear trees only grow in forests, but on starting a game yesterday, I found trees on top of a large mountain. I'm new to the game, I didn't know this was so weird! :)  The seed is 904742. To see the trees, go left from spawn. you will come to a cliff where, if you jump, you will see the trunk of a tree. This one may be excused by the land next to the cliff being lower than normal, a cave on the surface. However, if you climb the cliff, you will find more trees on a hump which is not very plains-like, then a much bigger rise with more trees again, and finally a very tall vertical cliff down to the normal-level land on the other side.  If I'd read the wiki first, I don't think I would ever have climbed that mountain, which is a shame because it's a lovely place. (Another curiosity: the other side features an "ocean" 4 blocks wide, containing 1 block of coral! Is it really only oceans which can contain coral?)

Ruins

  • Are ruins really a biome? Or are they a generated structure? TheTopazRobot (talk) 12:48, 5 November 2017 (CST)
    • I'd call them a biome, they are as big as one and made from the seed. Injinji (talk) 11:28, 30 November 2017 (CST)
    • They are treated as a biome in the code, so yes. Dungeons and the skyhold are both considered as structures because they are generated mostly after the world is generated. - Zanzlanz (talk) 20:40, 30 November 2017 (CST)

Do trees really grow only in forests?

Is it really only oceans which can contain coral?) Eekee (talk) 11:01, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
