Sand is a common resource Mine Blocks. It is generated in the desert biome and the water biome.
A unique quality to sand is that is falls if there is nothing below it. This makes it a very poor building material, as you cannot use it for a ceiling. Although, you can smelt it to create glass, which is good for building with.
