Lightning is an effect spawned naturally during thunderstorms, which is a part of the weather events. It causes a flash and a bolt of lightning. The bolt of lightning connects from the cloud layer to the surface of the world. This causes damage to nearby mobs.
If lightning strikes a pig, it will transform it into a zombie pigman.
If lightning hits a creeper, it will become a charged creeper.
Lightning can be spawned via the lightning command.
Alternatively, a thunderstorm can be triggered using the /weather set thunder command.
Trivia
- Hostile mobs can spawn in thunderstorms even in the day.
- Flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder occur ambiently in the nether.
- Lightning can spawn within buildings or structures that are built around the cloud layer.
Bugs
- 1.28: Naturally-spawning lightning can be positioned incorrectly.[Citation needed]
