Coal is a common mineral obtained from coal ore.
Obtaining
Mining
Coal is dropped by coal ore if mined with a pickaxe. The amount of coal dropped can be increased using the fortune enchantment.
Natural Generation
Coal can be found in 21.8% of loot chests in stacks of 1-6.
Crafting
Nine pieces of coal can be crafted back from the coal block.
Usage
Smelting
Similar to charcoal, coal can be used as a fuel for the furnace. Its capabilities as a fuel are identical to that of charcoal.
Crafting Ingredient
A piece of coal is required in the recipe for a torch.
Nine pieces of coal are required to craft a coal block. This is the only use of coal in which it cannot be replaced by charcoal.
