Hello, I'm a new user but not really since I've created an account here before that I forgot the password of.

I've played many games online including this one and participate in many things actively online.

Greetings Zanzlanz, how do you become approved?

I'm just editing some pages and the problem is I'm trying to upload stuff like pictures, and I can't because it says I can't create pages... And I'm pretty sure getting 'approved' means you can...? I've also found some stuff like glitches that I would like to illustrate in a picture, and other stuff that requires creating a page.

Article titles

Most wikis have singular article titles (for example, "Hoe" rather than "Hoes"). This can make navigating this site somewhat confusing. Do we want to change that or keep titles plural?

  • Good call! I vote to have them singular. This also makes it easier for people to link to pages: "Pickaxe and Pickaxes" for example. As long as there are redirects to from the plural to the singular pages, this would be perfect.

One other thing: There seems to be some sort of confusion with multiple articles being created for the same subject with different capitalization, and I'm not always sure which to mark for deletion. How do we capitalize in titles here? Do we prefer "Flint and Steel" or "Flint and steel"? Thanks much!

  • Even though the Minecraft wiki would use "Flint and Steel", I think I'd rather go with Wikipedia's style of proper noun capitalization, where things will be lowercase like "Flint and steel", unless they are a proper noun, such as "Markus Persson", for example. I've seen a couple duplicate pages too - in those cases, I merge any relevant information into the most completed version of the page, and then set the improperly titled page to redirect to the correct one. I really appreciate your amazing help on the wiki! Zanzlanz (talk) 12:46, 14 April 2017 (EDT)
    • Should the more important pages like Version History and Upcoming Features be changed? Because the Main Page is also not capitalized in this way. TheTopazRobot (talk) 17:30, 1 November 2017 (CDT)
  • Hmmmmm... I hadn't thought about that. I wish there was an easy way to make it case insensitive. I think we should keep it as is for now, especially the Main Page. - Zanzlanz (talk) 21:31, 1 November 2017 (CDT)

Categories

Can we nest categories? Some of them are subcategories of other categories.

  • Yes, sounds great! And thanks so much for the amazing help you've been providing! Zanzlanz (talk) 20:39, 15 April 2017 (EDT)

On the categories page, it lists no longer used categories with no pages, mostly typos of original categories. Is there a reason/fix for this, it is a bit annoying XD TheTopazRobot (talk) 06:51, 22 December 2018 (CST)

  • Sure, I cleaned them up! I simply have to run a maintenance script from the server console. It isn't built to do it automatically I guess. - Zanzlanz (talk) 22:15, 22 December 2018 (CST)

Spam filter

I sometimes can't make needed edits because they trip the spam filter. Can I change the article so it doesn't somehow? I'm not posting links or anything. Thanks!

  • Oh hey! Sorry about the spam filter! Without it, the wiki would be a huge mess. I removed a couple of the phrases that might cause those mistakes though, so give it another go if you'd like! Otherwise, definitely email me the message so I can investigate what might be causing problems.
Additionally, you CAN create external links by starting them with //:blah instead of the typical htttp:// or htttps:// (with only two 'T's of course) - Zanzlanz (talk) 08:45, 13 August 2017 (CDT)

Consistency

Hello Zanzlanz, I have some questions (a couple of suggestions) regarding consistency:

  1. Should sub titles in articles also follow the capitalisation rules of article titles? So, should we write "See Also" or "See also"?
  2. Should we make the article names of dimensions "The (Dimension)" or just "(Dimension)"? It might be easier to link to pages if there is no article ("overworld mobs", instead of "overworld mobs"), also you don't have to have the first letter of a link capitalised correctly, so you wouldn't have to worry about that.(We would probably also have to change "The player" in this case)
  3. In object templates, for the name of items/blocks, should we capitalise it like it is done ingame, or like the article page? And also how should it be done in crafting templates, for when you put your cursor above an item?
  4. In the object template, is there a specific set of "types" which something could be?
  5. Should we show crafting recipes for backdrops? It is hard to upload images for them, because they don't have their own image in the files (same with dyes, wool, and stained glass).

Thanks! :) TheTopazRobot (talk) 14:11, 19 February 2018 (CST)

Hey, good questions as usual c:
  1. I'm not sure about topic capitalization. I think it's preferable to capitalize them ("See Also"), as it doesn't mess with inline linking like the page titles do. I wish MediaWiki wasn't case-sensitive, then none of this would have been a problem haha
  2. Good point! Removing the "The" from dimension pages sounds fine to me.
  3. Yeah that's a good idea to have the object templates basically a representation of the in-game information. In the crafting templates, those are suppose to be titles to pages that clicking on the item links to. But it wasn't working because "Link" was capitalized in the template. So, I just fixed the links not working :)
  4. There's no particular list haha. Some categories are nonexclusive too. Here's an idea (feel free to give your ideas instead XD). Maybe it could be either "Block", or "Item", then with an optional category from the following:
    • Building Block
    • Decoration
    • Tool
    • Armor
    • Food
    • Crop
    • Redstone
    • Transportation
    • Miscellaneous (if necessary)
  5. Maybe just mention it can be crafted into a backdrop for now. I don't think we need images or item pages for it right now, since it's a pretty bad system right now. In the future I'd like for it to work like Mine Blocks 2!
Thank you for the questions and all the amazing work! <3 - Zanzlanz (talk) 11:32, 20 February 2018 (CST)

Okay I edited the crafting templates again so that you can have a different item name than the link. So you can have it link to |1=Backdrop but display |1name=Obsidian backdrop. If you don't use the "name" reference, it will default to the page title like usual.
A side effect of these crafting template changes is that we now have 151 Special:WantedPages (or better said: we now have a ton of broken links haha) - Zanzlanz (talk) 12:08, 20 February 2018 (CST)

Thanks for answers those questions :D!
"Outputname" will be useful for recipes for armor and tools :). (Maybe we could have an output number as well?)
To be honest, people probably won't notice that the crafting links were fixed for a while. But the number of broken links has gone back to how many there were before we started making an effort to remove them xD. TheTopazRobot (talk) 12:34, 20 February 2018 (CST)
I think something's gone wrong, now all recipes without the name specified say "{name}" when you place your mouse over it. TheTopazRobot (talk) 12:50, 20 February 2018 (CST)

Mine Blocks 2 articles

Should this wiki have articles about MB2 blocks, items, and mobs? And if so should things in both MB and MB2 like dirt be in the same article, with a section for the MB2 counterpart? - Injinji (talk) 12:40, 24 February 2018 (CST)

It should not have information about Mine Blocks 2 (at most, maybe relevant history or comparisons, like the page we have on Minecraft). But yeah, this is a Mine Blocks 1 wiki only for now. - Zanzlanz (talk) 22:06, 25 February 2018 (CST)
Ok, thanks. - Injinji (talk) 15:15, 26 February 2018 (CST)

Uncategorized pages

If you add the main page to General or something, we can finally empty the list of uncategorized pages (EDIT: except Prodevus's page, which I can't edit because it contains the word that begins with B and rhymes with "log", so help would be appreciated). What think you?

Also, I finally figured out how to sign discussion posts. :D

--Doomquokka (talk) 01:15, 14 December 2018 (EST)

  • Prodevus's website has been inaccessible for a long time, so I just removed the links. The word blog is banned because of spammers. What really stopped the spammers was banning links though, but I figure I might as well keep the other banned words active, just in case :) If you have to use a banned word, just use a zero-width space in the middle of the word or something lol, that's what I did above. As for links, just remove the "https:" and the link should still work.
Anyway, I made the changes you requested. Thanks again for your help! It feels nice to get rid of all of those unused images and to have things more categorized.
Signed, Ze Großartigkeit... anscheinend ;D - Zanzlanz (talk) 11:24, 14 December 2018 (EST)

Page headings

Do we leave headings without content, as is often the case with "Trivia"? Also, is there some sort of template with default headings and such that we can copy to low-content pages?

Thanks much! --Doomquokka (talk) 18:31, 18 March 2019 (CDT)

  • I would say that we shouldn't leave empty ones unless we are going to fill them, for example there are some headings which all pages should have. It would be nice to have some pictures in each page's gallery, and leaving them empty would remind us that they should be there. Also perhaps bugs should be left even if empty in case people want to add them then they know where to do it. However, if there is no trivia for example it should be removed.
These are the headings most pages have, in this order:
(For items/blocks:)
Obtaining
Usage
(For mobs/entities:)
Spawning
Drops
Behaviour
Immunities
(Then for everything)
Data Values
Tasks
History
Bugs
Trivia
Gallery

Hope this is helpful :). TheTopazRobot (talk) 12:45, 19 March 2019 (CDT)

Bugs

Hey zanzlanz! Can you add a page for reporting bugs (beta) maybe? I have a lot of bugs to report.

  • Hi there Ewitt‎ (btw make sure to sign your name when posting in Talks)! It would be much better if you reported bugs through Discord, or via an email, because the Wiki is not meant to be used like a forum. In any case, there's already a bugs page (which is currently very outdated and unhelpful haha). Zanzlanz (talk) 00:37, 19 November 2021 (EST)
