Obtaining
Natural Generation
A stone sword can be found in 21.8% of loot chests with 50-100 damage to durability.
Crafting
To create any sword put a stick or bamboo in the bottom row of the crafting section then put two wooden planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, gold ingots, or diamonds above the stick.

Repairing
Two swords of the same material can be combined in the crafting grid to combine their durability. This can also be done through use of the anvil, to preserve enchantments.
Usage
Attacking
The sword can be used to attack mobs or entities by left-clicking with the cursor on them.
Damage
The base damage is used to calculate the total damage considering potion effects, enchantments, and making a critical hit. However, the damage dealt is always rounded down, so for an unenchanted sword hit which is not critical the damage dealt would be the base damage rounded down.
The durability (amount of uses until the tool breaks) for swords is calculated just like the rest of the tools.
Type | Durability (uses) | Base Damage | |
---|---|---|---|
Wooden | 60 | 3 | |
Stone | 132 | 4 | |
Iron | 251 | 5.5 | |
Golden | 30 | 4.5 | |
Diamond | 1562 | 7 |
Mining
Swords can be used to break lemon blocks and cobwebs more quickly.
Enchanting
Swords can be enchanted directly through the enchantment table.
Enchantments applicable to swords include:
- Fire Aspect(Max lvl I)
- Knockback(Max lvl III)
- Looting(Max lvl III)
- Bane of Arthropods(Max lvl III)
- Smite(Max lvl IV)
- Sharpness(Max lvl IV)
- Unbreaking(Max lvl IV)
