Coal is a common mineral obtained from coal ore.

Obtaining

Mining

Coal is dropped by coal ore if mined with a pickaxe. The amount of coal dropped can be increased using the fortune enchantment.

Natural Generation

Coal can be found in 21.8% of loot chests in stacks of 1-6.

Crafting

Nine pieces of coal can be crafted back from the coal block.

Usage

Smelting

Similar to charcoal, coal can be used as a fuel for the furnace. Its capabilities as a fuel are identical to that of charcoal.

Crafting Ingredient

A piece of coal is required in the recipe for a torch.

Trivia

  • The texture for coal is no different to the one of charcoal.
  • The only difference in functionality between coal and charcoal is that coal can be used to craft the coal block while charcoal cannot.
