The compass is a tool used to show the player the direction of their spawnpoint in the overworld.
Obtaining
Crafting
Crafting is similar to the clock. First, make a diamond-shaped area of iron ingot, then put redstone dust in the middle.

Usage
The compass's use is to guide the player back to their spawnpoint in the overworld. The player's spawnpoint is usually where they slept most recently, so that means if they last slept in their house that is where the needle will point.
Just like the clock, the compass will not show your spawn point in the nether or the end. It will just spin in all directions.
