Name Tag is Used to name animals. You can obtain name tags in loot or with a Fishing Rod.
Using a Name Tag
To use a name tag you must first name it using an Anvil, then select the name tag in the items hotbar and shift-click on the animal you want to name.
Tip
- You can name multiple name tags all at once for the price of one as long as you don't mind all your rabbits being called moose.
- Careful of double clicking! The game will think you want to rename the mob and it will cost another name tag. Tags also are not dropped upon death.
