Flint and steel is one of the best ways to kill mobs while not wanting to engage combat against hostile/neutral mobs. The fire lasts long enough to slay an [[enderman]], which means you can kill every [[overworld]] mob with one use of a flint and steel. It also cooks raw food when passive mobs die. Doing this alone won't drop any experience, but if you punch the mob at least once, it will drop experience. This won't work on nether mobs, since they are immune to fire damage.
