The empty bottle is an item used for creating drinks and potions.
Obtaining
When you drink a potion, juice or a water bottle, it will give back an empty bottle.

Usage
When the player shift clicks on water while holding the empty bottle, it will turn into a bottle of water. When you take water out of a cauldron using an empty bottle, it will also turn into a bottle of water and take some of the water in the cauldron.
Enchanting
The empty bottle can be enchanted to create a bottle of enchanting
