Glass is a decorative block smelted by putting sand in a furnace. When glass is broken, it shatters into shards which can be put back together into glass again. Along with glowstone and glass backdrops, it is one of the only blocks that make a shattering sound. When walked on, though, it will make the generic stone sound.
