Chicken

Type:Passive
Drops:Raw chicken, Feather, Shades (if spawned with shades on)

The chicken is passive Overworld mob.

Spawning

The chicken spawns on grass blocks in the Overworld.

Eggs

Eggs, when thrown, have a 1 in 5 chance to spawn a baby chicken, which then grows into a chicken after 2 minutes.

Fire eggs also spawn regular chickens when thrown, which might be a bug.

Drops

The chicken drops 1 raw chicken and 0-2 feathers. It drops cooked chicken if killed with a weapon enchanted with fire aspect, as long as this weapon kills it in one hit, or it will turn into a flaming chicken.

Naturally Spawned Equipment

A chicken which spawned with shades has an 100% chance of dropping them upon death.

Behavior

The chicken will walk around aimlessly, like other passive mobs. If hit by the player, it will attempt to get away by running back and forth rapidly. The chicken can jump quite high.

The chicken lays an egg every so often, which can be used to spawn more chickens. This makes them currently the only farmable mob in the game.

Fire

If a chicken is set on fire but not killed, it turns into a flaming chicken. This causes it to become hostile towards the player and set fire to nearby blocks. It can be set on fire using flint and steel, a fire aspect enchanted weapon that does not do enough damage to kill it (for example a stick enchanted using commands), or blocks that are on fire.

Immunities

The chicken is immune to fall damage.

The chicken is also effectively immune to fire, because if set on fire it turns into a flaming chicken, which is immune to it.
